REPORTERS SAY THE DARNDEST THINGS!

The State of The Union address is about to begin.  But the "Talking Heads" are already preparing to tear it apart.  And, by the way, until, perhaps, the last 100 years the State of The Union was sent to the Capitol by letter.  But here is what bothers me today.  The news is full of all sorts of things that we, the people, should be concerned about.  There is bullying, sexual harassment, police brutality, black lives matter, white supremacy, check here: male, female, other, White House secrets, hanky-panky in the FBI, he says-she says, etc.
All these things fill the ears with garbage in the evening "news".  We all should be really concerned with the important things: the nastys who are killing our troops every chance they get.  The millions of people who come into our country because "They are escaping their country" but want to make ours just like that.  And while they are doing it we give them everything they want for FREE!.  Then there is the little guy in North Korea with his "Nuck" playthings threatening the world!..Medicineman!

"WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN'T LOOKING"

I do not know who wrote this but it is a message every adult should read, because children are watching you and doing as you do, not as you say.

*When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately wanted to paint another one.
*When you thought I wasn't looking , I saw you feed a stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals.
*When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you say a prayer, and I knew there is a God I could always talk to and I learned to trust in God.
*When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all have to help take care of each other.
*When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you give of your time and money to help people who had nothing and I learned that those who have something should give to those who don't.
*When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it and I learned we have to take care of what we are given.
*When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw how you handled your responsibilities, even when you didn't feel good and I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grow up.
*When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw tears come from your eyes and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry.
*When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw that you cared and I wanted to be everything that I could be.
*When you thought I wasn't looking, I learned most of life's lessons that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up.
Little eyes see a lot!  Each of us (parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, teacher or friend) influence the life of a child.  How will you touch the life of someone today?

A LOOK IN THE MIRROR

The Articles of  Confederation agreed on in 1777 and finally ratified by the delegates of Maryland in 1781 were soon found to be inadequate and defective for the needs of the new nation.  On January 21, 1786 the General Assembly of Virginia proposed a joint meeting to put together a new set of rules by which to govern the new country.
Thomas Jefferson was serving as United States Representative in Paris and penned these words on February 22, 1787:
"The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it always to be kept alive.  It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all.  I like a little rebellion now and then.  It is like a storm in the Atmosphere." ......Medicineman!

"WHAT HAPPENED?"

In Hillary's book, "What Happened?", she bemoans the fact that we still use the Electoral College to decide our elections.  In her mind, and that of many other democrats, that is an unfair way to decide an election.  In many people's mind elections should be decided by "majority rule" because that is what a democracy is all about, "majority rule".  That is true BUT, we are not a Democracy but a Republic.  No where, yes NO WHERE in our Declaration of Independence is the word "democracy" found.  Nor is it found in any other of the Founding Father's documents.  We were formed as a Republic and if we do not remain a Republic we shall got the way of every Democracy ever formed in the world and that is failure!  Democracy, that is "Mob Rule", is destined to fail because of man's in-born greed.  When enough voters find that they can vote themselves a "Free Ride" the Democracy is done.
There are twelve states on the East and West coasts that contain the majority of the population.  Without the Electoral College voters in 38 states are left out of the process.  The Founders of our country understood this very well........Medicinman!

JOURNALIST OR COPY BOY?

Once upon a time in the land that used to be, we had reporters, now called journalists.  The reporter spent his time running after leads, sniffing around Police stations for something to write about that would get him a byline on the front page.  Or, if he was good enough, chasing a led the editor had given him.
Copy boy was the starting place for an aspiring reporter.  He was the "gopher" of the press room.  Ran errands, emptied waste baskets, etc.  And became a proof reader and re-write man.
Journalists today spend their time talking to other journalists and copying other's stories or staring at the computer for a clue of something to write about, true or not.  They mostly do not check the facts of what they copy, just regurgitate the story as received.  Only a few of what like to be called "journalist" ever dig and examine, and pry and even visit the scene, or even question what they see or hear.  What a pity in today's world where truth is so scarce........Medicineman!

KOREA--REVISITED!

The winter of '50-'51 was one of the coldest recorded in Korea when  temperatures plunged to minus 40 degrees.  The only people who remember that are those who were there and a few historians.  MacArthur had the war won by October after pushing the North Korean invaders back to the Yalu River when the UN called a halt.  It did not take the Chinese long to take advantage of that decision and they swarmed across the border and  forced the retreat through the "Frozen Chosin".
North Korea was led then by the Grandfather of Kim Jong Un, the "Rocket man" with his finger on the button.  He must know that the U.S. Navy has ONE Submarine with more fire power than his whole arsenal.
The errors in judgement are not all one sided.  Japan was defeated by the United States forces, no one else, and we should have had the spoils of victory: ALL of Japan and ALL of Korea.  But Russia was allowed to join the war against Japan just days before She surrendered and Manchuria and Northern half of  Korea were given to Stalin.  It cost us dearly five years later with some 54,000 casualties and 8,000 more never accounted for.  No Peace Treaty was ever signed!........Medicineman!

HE,SHE,THEM???

I was always told that as we grow in age and experience that we most often become a little wiser.  That is, most of us human beings do.  Now it has come to my attention that some of our 50 states have found that the various applications and other forms that citizens are asked to fill out for various services offered by the state (most of which are for taxpayer's money)must be changed.  Yes, now instead of declaring that you are (1) Male, or (2) Female there is a place to announce that you are neither or both, depending on how you feel that particular day.  Doesn't that make you feel all warm and fuzzy?..............Medicineman!

"CAN YOU TOP THIS?"

If you are 70 years old, or there-abouts, you may remember when radio was king.  Those days before TV and computers.
Colgate-Palmolive sponsored a program called. "Can You Top This".  Listeners would send in jokes and if they were used on the program they were paid $10.  The joke was read to the audience, a live one in those days, and their laughter was recorded on a "laugh meter".
Three joke tellers were on stage to tell a better joke.  They were; "Senator Ford, Harry Hershfield and Joe Laurie Jr.
Now each man would come up with a joke to try to top the one just read and if the response on the "laugh meter" did not top it $5 was added to the sender's check.  All three tried to top the joke sent in so it was possible for that person to earn $25 from the joke.
Many of the jokes were ethnic, Jewish and Irish being favored but also included other races as well.
The program was very popular and ran for 12 years, from 1942 to 1954.
It seems a shame that we as a people have become so sensitive and "thin-skined" that the humor is gone from relationships that we used to value and delight in........Medicineman!
